Sitting on my porch in the cool of the morning, I pondered the many characteristics of our Lord.
He is infinite.
“Because God is infinite, He is also said to be transcendent, which simply means that God is exceedingly far above creation and is both greater than creation and independent of it. What this means is that God is so infinitely above and beyond us and our ability to fully comprehend that, had He not revealed Himself, we would not know or understand what He is like. (1)
There is no beginning or end to our Lord. He exists out of time. Yet He is present in all His glory and the owner of His creation.
He is the only Creator. He formed the earth with His voice and hands.
“He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth – the LORD God Almighty is his name.” (2)
He owns the weather. He brings the rain and snow.
“He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’ God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.” (3)
He fashions the clouds and calls out the winds from His storehouses.
“Who can understand the spreading of the clouds and the thunder that rolls forth from heaven?” (4)
He is omnipotent.
“Behold, God is exalted in his power; who is a teacher like him?” (5)
He is more powerful than the ocean waves or the highest waterfall.
He is omniscient – His intelligence infinite.
“…God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.” (6)
“‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,’ says the LORD.” (7)
He is omnipresent.
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?” (8)
He is Lord.
He is loving, kind, gracious, and forgiving. He knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb. He laid out good works for you to walk in. The desire of His heart is that you truly believe Christ died so you could spend eternity with Him.
He is Lord and Savior. There is nowhere you can go where He is not.
You belong to Him, and He never forgets that.
This is the Lord we serve.
“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?
Tell me, if you understand.
Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!
Who stretched a measuring line across it?
On what were its footings set,
or who laid its cornerstone—while the morning stars sang together
and all the angels shouted for joy?”
