So often when I am singing in church on Sunday, I am touched by the words as they enter my heart and fill the room with praises of the King. It’s easy for me to get lost in the lyrics and feel transported into heaven for a short while. Some of this is because on stage, the room is dark and the lights shining down on us are unusually bright, especially if you look up. I imagine what it will be like in heaven where the presence of the Lord will be magnificently bright, probably almost blinding based on what we know of Moses’s encounters with the Lord.
There are many hymns about the beauty of the earth our Lord created and gave us. I thought it might be fun to share one of my favorites and let you see something of where my mind goes as we lift these praises to Him on Sunday mornings. I did a search on the web for hymns that praise His creation and there are so many it was hard to choose. You might enjoy that search yourself.
Here is, “All Things Bright and Beautiful.” Try meditating on the lyrics and the photo or later think of other places in your mind as you sing these lyrics during your day. Then enjoy your praise to God!
Chorus:
“All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all.
Each little flow’r that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.
The purple-headed mountains,
The river running by,
The sunset and the morning
That brightens up the sky.
The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.
The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water,
To gather every day.
He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.”
“All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.”
Psalm 66:4 ESV
